About Brisbane Markets Limited

Brisbane Markets Limited (BML) is the owner of the Brisbane Markets® site and is responsible for its ongoing management and development.

Brisbane Markets® occupies 77 hectares of land at Rocklea, just 11 kilometres south-west of the Brisbane CBD.

As the proprietor of the site, BML has over 250 leases in place including selling floors, industrial warehousing, retail stores and commercial offices.

BML acknowledges its role as an economic hub of Queensland, facilitating the trade of $1.3 billion worth of fresh produce annually, supporting local and regional businesses of the horticulture industry.

Industry Ownership

Brisbane Markets Limited manages the Brisbane Markets® in support of the horticulture industry, having purchased the site from the State Government in 2002.

BML is owned by over 150 predominantly fruit and vegetable industry-based shareholders. Its major shareholder, Brismark, is the member organisation which represents and serves the needs of the wholesaling sector of the fresh fruit and vegetable industry – in particular the primary Wholesalers that operate out of the Brisbane Produce Market.

Industry ownership ensures the professional and commercial management of the Brisbane Markets® for the benefit of the horticulture industry.

Central Markets

Central Markets are situated throughout the world and offer a structured trading environment where all industry sectors can meet and collectively trade.

There are six Central Markets in Australia including the Brisbane Produce Market and others located in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Newcastle. They play a significant role within Australia’s horticulture industry as major distribution points for the majority of the nation’s fresh produce, which is either traded or transhipped through Australia’s Central Markets.

Central Markets deliver an efficient logistics and marketing solution by providing extensive exposure to a large customer base in one location with access to warehousing and storage facilities.

Corporate Responsibility

Brisbane Markets® has been an integral part of the community of Brisbane and the wider-reaching community of Queensland for more than 50 years. Brisbane Markets Limited strives to be a responsible and active corporate citizen.

We recognise that our company is an influential member of society, and we are proud to play an active role in promoting the message of healthy eating for families throughout the state. One of the ways we do this is by supporting groups and charities that are important to consumers or that make a difference in the lives of fellow Queenslanders.

At the heart of our community commitment are our relationships with Diabetes Queensland and Life Education Queensland.

Beyond these charity relationships our focus is on supporting the Your Local Fruit Shop campaign which promotes healthy eating and consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables sold by independent retailers.
