Brisbane Markets Limited (BML) and Brismark are pleased to announce the Forklift Operator of the Year event is back for 2025! BML, together with Brismark, Toyota Material Handling, The Drug Detection Agency, Veolia and SBP Australia, proudly celebrates the 10th year of the Forklift Operator of the Year competition, as we go in search for the site’s safest and most skilled forklift operator.
Following tradition, the event will run over several weeks, assessing participants on their safe work practices before the top ten operators face off in a timed, practical course for a share of $5,000 in prize money.
How It Works
Round 1: Registrations – Thursday, 21 August to Wednesday, 10 September 2025
Open to all Tenants and Tenant employees who hold a valid Brisbane Markets Forklift Operator Permit (FOP).
Condition of entry: FOP holders must not have received any “refer to management” safety notices from BML.

Round 2: Observation Period – Thursday, 11 September to Thursday, 9 October 2025
All registered contestants will be issued forklift magnets and an identification number. Market Officers and independent judges will observe and score contestants on compliance with the Brisbane Markets Forklift Operating Rules. Points will be awarded or deducted based on performance.
Finalists Announced: Thursday, 16 October 2025
Round 3: Grand Final – Tuesday, 28 October 2025
The top 10 scorers will compete on a timed, practical course designed to test skill, safety, and precision.
