Brisbane Markets Produce Report

11 September 2026

School holidays are only a week away, and if you are looking for some fun activities to keep the kids busy, spring holidays are a great time to get them into the kitchen, creating delicious and healthy snacks and meals.

For a great snack, try our pick of the week, which are Pineapples from the Sunshine Coast, Caboolture and Maryborough. No matter how you like to eat your Pineapple, rest assured they are perfect to eat this week, and the supply is excellent. To make sure you get a nice, sweet-tasting Pineapple, smell the bottom of the fruit, and if it smells sweet, add it to your basket. If you have budding bakers in the house and want to add a sweet and healthy snack to a holiday afternoon tea, why not try this Pineapple and Passionfruit Upside Down Cake.

Citrus lovers are in for a treat this week, as Navel Oranges from Mundubbera and NSW are in plentiful supply and the quality is outstanding. Whether you are looking to start the day off with a fresh glass of Orange juice or wanting a healthy, zesty snack, Navel Oranges are packed full of vitamin C that will help keep your immune system strong and your mind clear — ideal for those days when you are not at your best.

Another citrus fruit in plentiful supply this week is Grapefruit from Victoria. A ripe Grapefruit should be uniform in colour, oval-shaped and heavy for its size. Grapefruit are famous for their refreshing flavour consisting of sweetness, tartness and bitterness, all in the one fruit.

Looking for something vibrant and peppery to add to a dish, Radish from the Darling Downs could be the answer you are looking for. This versatile root vegetable is in great supply right now and will be a welcome addition to any salad, slaw, soup or stew. Radish is also great as a crisp snack and is a wonderful addition to sauces as well. When selecting Radish, look for healthy leaf bunches and a well-shaped, well-coloured vegetable, and remove the leaves and place them in an airtight plastic bag in the crisper of your fridge to keep them fresh.

There is a wealth of Asparagus from Victoria in the Markets this week, meaning they are of good value. When selecting your Asparagus, be sure to pick a bunch with stalks that are firm and sturdy, have tips that are tight and closed, and are a bright green in colour. Treat your Asparagus like flowers when storing them by filling a container with about one centimetre of cold water and placing them standing in the container, then covering and storing in the fridge. Try this simple Lemon and Asparagus Spaghetti if you are after a fresh pasta dish for dinner.

So, visit your local, independent fruit and vegetable store displaying the A better choice! logo this week, for all your fresh, quality, seasonal produce needs, grown on Australian farms and sourced through the Brisbane Markets, Queensland Heart of Fresh Produce.
