On Thursday, 8 August, Brisbane Markets Limited was proud to host a tour group of Queensland’s 2025 Rural Ambassador State Finalists, providing an opportunity to showcase the unique role the Brisbane Markets plays in supporting Queensland’s fresh produce industry.
The Queensland Rural Ambassador Awards is recognised as the State’s leading rural and agricultural leadership program for men and women aged between 20 and 30. Established in 2003 and coordinated by Queensland Ag Shows, the program empowers young leaders to promote Queensland’s agricultural sector, rural communities and show societies. It also offers a valuable platform for local communities and agricultural shows to identify, celebrate and develop the next generation of leaders who will champion the future of the industry.
This year, eleven outstanding finalists representing regions from across Queensland came together in Brisbane for a week of activities, professional development, and the State Final, held at the iconic Royal Queensland Show (Ekka).
As part of their program, the group toured the Brisbane Markets Central Trading Area, gaining insight into the operations and scale of the State’s largest wholesale fresh produce hub. They also visited the Arch Martin Brisbane Markets History Room (pictured), where they explored the rich history of the site and its contribution to Queensland’s produce supply chain. The visit concluded at the Brisbane Flower Market, where finalists experienced another vibrant arm of the Markets’ operations before continuing on to their next scheduled engagement.
