Brisbane Produce Report

19 June 2026

Did you know that Australians now eat about 19kg fewer vegetables each year than they did 25 years ago?* With most people having only 1.8 serves of fruit and vegetables a day, very few reach the recommended five serves. Boost your intake by stocking up on a large variety of fresh, seasonal Australian-grown produce from your local independent fruit and vegetable store displaying the A better choice! logo.

This week’s pick of the week is Green Cabbage from the Lockyer Valley. With supply abundant, Green Cabbage is great value now, which is perfect for those looking to make a hearty winter stew to warm up against the cold. To select a good Green Cabbage, look for one that is dense, feels heavy for its size, and has tight, crisp, and vibrant green leaves. Avoid heads with large outer leaves that have been stripped away, or any that show signs of softness, bruising, or discolouration. If you are looking to do something a little different, then why not give this Charred Cabbage and Fried Egg with Miso Butter Spaghetti recipe a try.

Mushroom lovers will be happy to know that White Cup Mushrooms from Staplyton and New South Wales are in good supply this week and the quality is superb. Finding ways to incorporate them into your weekly meals is fun and a great way to add nutrition and flavour to your dishes. Try these delicious Ricotta Stuffed Mushrooms for a change; they will leave you wanting more!

Red Capsicums from Bowen and Bundaberg are in great supply this week, and they are a value buy for those on a budget. Known for their mild, sweet flavour, Capsicums are a true crowd-pleaser as they are super versatile and packed full of vitamins A and C. Look for ones that are firm, have a glossy, brightly coloured skin and feel heavy for their size. Avoid any with wrinkles, soft spots, or blemishes.

One of the traditional Apple varieties, Pink Lady Apples, from Stanthorpe and Victoria are in great supply this week. They are not only super juicy and very crunchy, but Pink Lady Apples are packed with fibre that can aid with digestive health and reducing cholesterol levels.

Supply of Navel Oranges from Gayndah continues to be plentiful and good value. With school holiday coming up, make sure that you have plenty on hand to make snack time a healthy one. A different way to enjoy a Navel Orange is to freeze it and enjoy a natural frozen juice that is refreshing even on a cold day.

So, make a pledge to include more fruit and veg in your diet. There is a plethora of delicious fresh produce available at your local, independent fruit and vegetable store displaying the A better choice! logo, where the produce has been sourced through the Brisbane Markets, Queensland’s Heart of Fresh Produce.
