Brisbane Produce Report

19 September 2025

Mango season has begun! For those waiting in anticipation for this deliciously sweet fruit to hit the shelves of your local, independent A better choice! retailer, your wait is over with Mangoes sourced through the Brisbane Markets in-store now from growing regions in North Queensland and the Northern Territory.

This week, Mangoes are in the spotlight with the symbolic first tray of Mangoes for the season auctioned at the Brisbane Markets’ Mango Auction, helping to raise more than $81,000 for charities, Redkite and The Lady Musgrave Trust. Chris Frame from The Standard Market Company took out the title of Brisbane Markets’ Mango King for 2025 with his incredible $66,000 bid.

Mangoes are a superfood, containing over 20 different vitamins and minerals, and are great in smoothies, salads, muffins or on their own, so why not pick some up this week? To ensure your Mango is ripe, store it at room temperature for up to five days, then place it in the refrigerator, where it will last a further five days.

Blueberries grown in Bundaberg, Caboolture, and Coffs Harbour are in abundance and of excellent value this week. Although they are quite smaller than other fruits, these plump and juicy gems are full of flavour and packed with nutrients. Blueberries are the all-rounder, sprinkled on yoghurt for breakfast, a quick and no-fuss snack, or even the perfect cake topper for dessert! For a tasty breakfast or snack, why not give this Baked Berry Yoghurt recipe a try?

You may have noticed in your local fruit and veg shop some rather large, green-skinned Avocados? These are Reed Avocados and are great eating this week from Bundaberg. Reed Avocados have a rich and creamy flavour and are super easy to peel. You can never go wrong with Avocados; they are the perfect ingredient for salads, sandwiches and, of course, smashed Avocadoes.

Growing conditions for Celery have been favourable, meaning there is a plentiful supply this week. This crunchy, yet watery vegetable is packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, making it a healthy choice for your body. Enhance your snacks by adding some cheese or peanut butter to your Celery sticks for ultimate flavour.

Zucchinis from Bundaberg and Northern Queensland are more than abundant at the moment. Whether you simply slice and steam your Zucchini, or you have some secret culinary skills and spiralise your Zucchini into noodles, this vegetable is enjoyed by many. Not only is Zucchini a versatile vegetable, but it is also rich in antioxidants and vitamins. Did you know that Zucchini has more potassium than Bananas?

Looking for freshness? Craving seasonal produce? Searching for a large variety of quality fruit and vegetables? Then look no further than your local independent A better choice! store with a large range of quality, fresh produce sourced through the Brisbane Markets.
