Brisbane Produce Report

2 February

There’s plenty of seasonal summer favourites coming through the Brisbane Markets this week and into your local fruit and veg shop, so you can save money on groceries whilst still enjoying fresh, quality produce.

Plums are our pick of the week, offering a delightful combination of sweetness and tartness. Whether you love Sugar Plums, Queen Garnets or any other variety, Victorian grown Plums are prime eating at the moment. Elevate your dessert game with the enticing Plum Sorbet recipe, where the natural flavours of Plums take centre stage.

Other Victorian grown stone fruit to look out for include Yellow Peaches and Nectarines. With their juicy texture and sweet taste, they are both great eating this week and perfect for both sweet and savoury dishes. Cut up a Nectarine to add to yoghurt for dessert, or try this Pulled Chicken and Peach Soft Tacos recipe.

A summer favourite, Watermelon from North Queensland are still cheaply priced and the go-to hydrating snack. Cool down with this refreshing Cucumber, Watermelon and Basil Cooler..

Limes are still readily available and priced to sell thanks to an early picking ahead of the North Queensland storms. Make the most of this flavoursome citrus and add a zesty kick to both beverages and dishes this week, like this White Chocolate and Lime Cheesecake recipe.

We may be coming to the end of the season, but North Queensland Mangoes are sensational eating at the moment, full of tropical sweetness and in great supply. There are plenty of tasty recipes for Mangoes, but we think they’re just perfect to eat as they are.

Tomatoes are affordably priced and abundant this week thanks to produce from growing regions in Stanthorpe, South Australia and Victoria. With Victorian grown Avocados also in good supply, why not enjoy this Tomato and Avocado Bruschetta this weekend?

Spice up your meals with Bundaberg grown Chilli. There are a number of varieties available, all ready to add a kick to your traditional savoury dishes, such as this Penne Pasta with Mushrooms, Rocket and Chilli recipe.

If you’re looking for affordable salad ingredients, you can’t go past Victorian grown Zucchini. In fact, they’re so well priced, even if you’re not a big fan of salads, you can always try these Air Fryer Zucchini Fries as a healthy yet tasty treat.

Your local A better choice! fruit and veg shop hand picks their produce from the Brisbane Markets at Rocklea, which comes from thousands of Australian farms. Why not call in and see your local fruit and veg shop for the best quality, choice, freshness, and service available!
