Brisbane Produce Report

20 February 2026

When you are on your way to do the grocery shopping this weekend, remember to stop by your local, independent fruit and vegetable store for a variety of fresh, quality, and seasonal produce. Stores that display the A better choice! logo source their produce from the Brisbane Markets, so choosing to shop an A better choice! store supports local business, local families, and Australian growers.

The pick of the week is Green Capsicums from North Queensland and Stanthorpe, as they are fantastic value and excellent quality this week. Green Capsicums tend to be more bitter than the Red and Yellow varieties, nevertheless, they are still a tasty addition to stir-fries, curries, and salads. Look for ones that are a vibrant, dark green colour, have a firm texture, and glossy, taut skin without wrinkles or soft spots. A fresh green stem is also a good indicator of quality produce. Store unwashed, whole Capsicums in the fridge’s crisper drawer, preferably inside a breathable bag, where they should keep fresh for a couple of weeks. Try these Chargrilled Capsicum skewers for a bright and colourful dinner. Red and Yellow Capsicum varieties are also in abundance this week, so keep an eye out for them as well.

Sweet Corn from the Lockyer Valley and Victoria is in great supply this week too. Whether you like your Corn steamed, chargrilled, or coated in butter, you cannot go wrong. Right now, Corn is of great value, so grab a few cobs and pop them on the meal plan.

Zucchini from Bundaberg, Victoria, and South Australia continues to be plentiful. Zucchini’s subtle flavour makes them a perfect vegetable to pack into a range of dishes like fritters, soups or Bolognese sauce, just to name a few. By adding Zucchini into your dishes, you are incorporating a vegetable that is highly nutritious and packed with vitamins, fibre, and potassium.

Growers in Victoria are providing the Brisbane Markets with plenty of crisp and juicy new-season Gala Apples. Perfect for pies, sauces, and salads, Gala Apples are a great way to start and finish your day.

A unique variety of produce in season now is Carambola, also known as Star Fruit. These yellow star-shaped fruits are grown in Central Queensland and if you have never tasted a Star Fruit, they are a mix between an Apple, Pear, Grape with a hint of Citrus. If you would like to give this seasonal treat a try this week, then look for one that has a green/yellow waxy skin and looks crispy.

From Apples to Zucchinis, your local fruit and vegetable store has access to a wide range of fresh, quality produce sourced from the Brisbane Markets, Queensland’s heart of fresh produce. With fruit and vegetables arriving from thousands of Australian farms, not only is there plenty of choice, but there is nothing quite like making A better choice! and choosing to shop at your local, independent fruit and vegetable shop.
