Brisbane Produce Report

20 March 2026

If you are looking for a variety of fresh, quality and seasonal produce, look no further than your local independent fruit and vegetable store displaying the A better choice! logo. This logo indicates that the produce has been sourced through Queensland’s heart of fresh produce, the Brisbane Markets at Rocklea.

This week’s pick of the week is Lemons. With an abundant supply arriving from North Queensland, it is the ideal time to add some citrus to your shopping basket. Lemons bring a refreshing touch and bright flavour to drinks, marinades, sweet treats, and desserts. Packed with vitamin C, fibre, and antioxidants, they are a healthy addition to a range of recipes. To select a juicy Lemon, choose one that is bright yellow, feels heavy for its size and has smooth, thin skin. With Easter approaching, Lemons are a wonderful way to add a vibrant twist to your baking to balance out your chocolate intake over the coming weeks. Why not try these Lemon Curd Scones or Lemon Yoghurt Cake for something a bit different?

Green Plums, also known as Turtle Egg Plums, from Victoria are in excellent supply at the Brisbane Markets this week and are eating beautifully. These Green Plums offer the crisp crunch of an Apple with the sweet, juicy flavour of a Plum. Do not be fooled; despite their colour, these Plums are ripe and ready to eat. To check their ripeness, give them a gentle squeeze, similar to how you would test an Avocado.

Start your day with a fruit that provides lasting energy. Cavendish Bananas from North Queensland are the perfect addition to your breakfast menu. Whether served with oats, mashed on toast with honey, or blended into a smoothie, Bananas can help energise your morning as temperatures begin to cool.

Broccoli this week is also excellent quality and in good supply, just in time for National Broccoli Day this Sunday. With supply coming from Lowood, the Granite Belt, Victoria and Tasmania, this weekend is a great opportunity to enjoy Broccoli‑based dishes such as Broccoli and Cauliflower Bake and Roast Broccoli Salad with Spicy Tahini Dressing.

The humble Brown Onion deserves some attention this week. This flavour‑rich ingredient is often the source of the question, “That smells amazing; what are you cooking?” It is in strong supply this week from growing regions across the Granite Belt and the quality is outstanding, so it is a great time to pick up a few extras. If you are only using half an onion, store the remainder in an airtight container or bag to prevent odours from spreading and to reduce moisture loss. Onions generally keep for five to seven days in the refrigerator, and they stay fresher for longer if the root end remains attached.
