As the weather begins to cool down and the leaves start changing colour one thing remains the same, and that is, your local, independent A better choice! fruit and vegetable shop is full of a variety of vibrant fresh produce, sourced from the Brisbane Markets. The Markets have been brimming with fresh supply, so there will be plenty for you to choose from at your local A better choice! shop this week.

As the age old saying goes, “When life gives you Lemons, make lemonade”. Well, you will be able to do more than that as Lemons are our pick of the week. In excellent supply and great value, these North Queensland beauties are packed with vitamin C and are a great addition to your diet if you are looking to boost your health as the seasons change. Be sure to grab a bag and make some homemade lemonade or a zesty Lemon Cake this weekend.

Another sweet, yet tart fruit of great value this week is Passionfruit. From the Wide Bay region and North Queensland, these Passionfruit will add a burst of flavour to your week. Use the juicy pulp to elevate ice-creams, sorbets, fruit salads, slices, or even drizzle it over a cheesecake glaze. Plus, they’re a great source of vitamin C and dietary fibre – what’s not to love?

Rockmelons from New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia are in full swing, bringing a healthy dose of vitamins A, C, and B6 to your plate. They are also rich in potassium and magnesium, making them the perfect refreshing snack or salad addition. Supply is excellent and you should find some good value with Rockmelons this week.

Autumn is the peak season for green leafy vegetables and with the increasing supply, quality is great, and value is even better this week. The Granite Belt and Victoria are providing the Brisbane Markets with some lovely bushy Broccoli. Whether it’s a dinner staple or a creative new addition to your meals, try making a crunchy Broccoli Slaw for a fresh twist!

Another leafy green to keep an eye out for as well is Cos Lettuce. From the Granite Belt and Brisbane Valley growing regions, there is ample supply and quality is great. Perfect for salads or even a BLT, Cos Lettuce is crisp, refreshing and pairs perfectly with the pick of the week Lemons. Your local, independent A better choice! fruit and veg shop hand-selects their fresh produce from the Brisbane Markets to provide their community with fresh, quality, and locally grown fruit and veg.
