Brisbane Produce Report

20 November 2025

Friday, 21 November is National Agricultural Day – a day we thank and pay tribute to produce growers and farmers across Australia. This year for National Agriculture Day, we are asked to Stand with the Land and celebrate Australian farmers. At the Brisbane Markets, we recognise the hard work and dedication of growers, especially those that supply the 700 million kilograms of fresh produce to the Markets every year. Show your support by shopping at your local, independent fruit and vegetable store that is sourced through the Brisbane Markets with produce from growers from over 7,000 farms across Australia.

Our pick of the week is Sweet Corn, with an abundant supply from the Lockyer Valley and North Queensland. Sweet Corn is not only tasty but also a great source of vitamin C, dietary fibre, folic acid and phosphorus. Ideal for spring and summer, Corn can be light and refreshing in a salad or provide the perfect crunch and creaminess when grilled on the barbecue and covered in butter. To select good Corn, look for tightly husked ears with bright green husks and fresh-looking silks at the top. When storing, keep it in its husk and place it in the fridge’s crisper drawer as soon as possible. For even longer storage, wrap the ears in a damp paper towel before putting them in a plastic bag, which helps lock in moisture and freshness.

Another wallet-friendly vegetable this week is Cherry Tomatoes from the Lockyer Valley, Bundaberg, and New South Wales. These are perfect for snacking – bite sized, juicy, and naturally sweet. Although Cherry Tomatoes are tasty on their own, if you are looking for a simple and seasonal salad idea, give this Roasted Cherry Tomato Salad a try.

Asparagus from Victoria continues to be fantastic value, as supply is plentiful right now. Treat your Asparagus like flowers when storing them by filling a container with about one centimetre of cold water and placing the Asparagus standing in the container, then covering and storing in the fridge.

Sweet and tangy Limes from Mareeba are rolling into the Brisbane Markets, ready for the festive season! Citrus fruits are an enjoyable addition to many dishes and drinks! Here are a few recipes of inspiration featuring the delightful Lime: Grilled Pacific Prawns with Lime Ginger Marinade, Grilled Lime Chicken with Sweet Potato Salad, or add a zing to your morning and give this delicious Lime Smoothie a go!

Watermelon, Rockmelon and Honeydew Melons continue to be of excellent supply, quality, and value! Beat the summertime heat with a nice big juicy Melon grown in regions from North Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Take the time today to educate yourself about Australia’s agriculture sector and celebrate the hard work and dedication that goes towards the food you see on your plate every day. Show your support of Australian growers by shopping at your local, independent A better choice! store, where your produce has been sourced through the Brisbane Markets.
