This week’s pick of the week is Broccoli, from the Lockyer Valley and Gatton. Currently in great supply and of excellent quality and value, this vegetable is not only super tasty, but it is also packed with nutrients and vitamins, and is so easy to cook! To pick a great head of Broccoli, look for a deep, vibrant green colour, tightly packed florets, and a firm stalk. For a nice healthy winter snack, try these crunchy on the outside and gooey cheesy on the inside Air-fried Broccoli and Corn Cheese balls.
There are Tomatoes for as far as the eye can see this week, but the standout is Gourmet Tomatoes from Bowen, Bundaberg, Stanthorpe and Gatton. With their sweet, mild and honey‑like flavour, Persimmons are rich in fibre, minerals, and antioxidants. When storing Persimmons, try not to stack them as they can bruise easily and keep them stem-side down in an open‑air environment. To eat, simply slice them like an Apple, and enjoy.
With an abundant supply from Gayndah and North Queensland, it is the ideal time to add some Lemons to your shopping basket. Lemons bring a refreshing touch and bright flavour to drinks, marinades, sweet treats, and desserts.
