Last week, parts of Victoria faced severe storms which may impact some supply of fruit and vegetables in the coming weeks. However, with Queensland growing regions providing plenty of fresh produce, and the Brisbane Markets buzzing as we transition into warmer summer months, there is still plenty in great supply and well-priced with sweet tropical fruits just around the corner at your local fruit and vegetable shop this week.

This week’s pick of the week is sure to delight: Red Onions from the Lockyer Valley are looking spectacular! With prices dropping and quality high, these vibrant onions will add a crisp, tangy kick to your summer salads and salsas. Why not try them in a delightful Quinoa salad or even a creamy homemade Guacamole, perfect for those sunny gatherings!
And what pairs better with our pick of the week, than crunchy, leafy Lettuce? With a wide variety available—from Iceberg to Rocket and Cos, from the Granite Belt, Darling Downs and Lockyer Valley—there’s something for every dish. Whether you’re making burgers, tacos, or a fresh San Choy Bow, you can’t go wrong. For a fun twist, give this Spiced chicken and Mango salad a try!
Local growers from Stanthorpe and the Lockyer Valley have also blessed us with a fantastic supply of Broccoli. These “little green trees” are not just delicious but are also packed with health benefits, from lowering cholesterol to promoting heart health. Look for vibrant green florets without any discoloration and add a bunch to your cart this week!
Are you a fan of Carrots? Now’s the time to grab some! With excellent quality coming from both the Lockyer Valley and Victoria, these versatile veggies are perfect for countless dishes, plus they are said to help us see better in the dark. This delicious, quick, and easy Chicken and vegetable stir fry could be a good option if you’re after a healthy dinner this week.
Mangoes continue to be the word on the trading floor at the Brisbane Markets this week as supply is on the rise and prices are dropping. Always a fan favourite, Mangoes are a decent source of vitamins A, C, and folate, and are pretty high in fibre, which is beneficial for cancer prevention, heart disease and weight control.
Berries from all over the country are generating some buzz, with generous supplies and exceptional quality of Blackberries and Raspberries from Coffs Harbour and Bundaberg and Strawberries from the Sunshine Coast as well as New South Wales and Victoria available. There’s nothing better than an ice-cold Berry smoothie as the weather continues to heat up, so why not whip up a refreshing and soothing Strawberry and Mango smoothie to cool down!
And let’s not forget about the unmistakable sign of summer: Watermelon! Supplies from Northern Queensland are on the rise, so be sure to pick up a juicy one. Check for the yellow spot on the ground side to ensure ripeness, and consider whipping up a Seedless Watermelon and Ginger smoothie for a refreshing treat!
Exciting news—Lychees are making their first appearance in the Markets for the season! These sweet delights are just around the corner, so keep an eye out for them as they’ll be in stores soon.
Make A better choice! this week by shopping at your local fruit and veg shop and enjoy the freshest, highest-quality produce sourced straight from the Brisbane Markets. Here’s to a vibrant, flavourful week ahead!
