Have you ever tried a Persimmon? Well now is the perfect opportunity because they are in plentiful supply and are our pick of the week. Coming from growing regions across Southeast Queensland, Persimmons are a sweet flavourful fruit that are as versatile as they are delicious. Packed with vitamins C and E, as well as dietary fibre, Persimmons are great as a sweet lunch box snack, in fruit crumbles, fruit salads, even wrapped in prosciutto for a delicious finger food. Slice them in wedges like an Apple or slice horizontally like a Tomato. You will not be disappointed, and with plenty of supply it means prices are low so take advantage this week.

In season and in full supply from North Queensland, Shepard Avocados are here to add some creamy goodness to your meals. Unlike the Hass variety, Shepard Avocados stay green even when ripened. To test for ripeness, just give a gentle press at the top. They are in season until May, so enjoy them while they last!

A deliciously juicy fruit that should be added to your basket this week is William Pears. Just like the Avocadoes, press the top of the Pear near the stem to check its ripeness. The William Pears coming through the Brisbane Markets are from Victoria and make a nutritious fruit choice being full of fibre, low GI and vitamin C. Remember not to peel the skin – it is packed with antioxidants and phytochemicals that are beneficial to your health.

Continuing to be in healthy supply from the Granite Belt, Bundaberg and Victoria this week is Zucchini. Looking for an inside tip? Look for a Zucchini that has a chunky stem attached as this means it will last longer. If you find yourself with an abundance of Zucchinis this week because of their fantastic value, give these Parmesan Thyme Air Fryer Zucchini Fries a try!

There are many types of Tomatoes, but this week, Roma and Gourmet are of great value. Tomatoes have great flavour and health boosters. Roma Tomatoes are an easy on -the-go snack or addition to salads or Bruschetta, while Gourmet Tomatoes are perfect for roasting, sandwiches, home-made burgers and salads too. There is a plentiful supply this week coming from Stanthorpe and Bundaberg. Not only can they be used in a variety of ways, but Tomatoes are an excellent source of vitamins C and E and are packed with dietary fibre. So, head to your local, independent A better choice! fruit and veg retailer to pick up top quality, fresh and locally grown produce sourced directly from the Brisbane Markets. Look for the A better choice! logo to guarantee that what you take home is the best that nature has to offer!
