Brismark staff member celebrates 50 years of service

When Ed Golebiowski walked into a hardware store at the Brisbane Markets as a 16-year-old in 1975, he never imagined that decision would spark a 50-year career. What began as a part-time job has evolved into a journey that has helped shape Brismark, the fresh produce wholesaler representative organisation at the Brisbane Markets, through five decades of change.

Now celebrating his golden anniversary of service, Ed’s remarkable contribution to Brismark has been described by CEO Andrew Young as nothing short of monumental.

Among his many achievements, Ed played a central role in the development of the Brisbane Markets Price Report app, an innovative tool used across the fresh produce supply chain to help improve transparency of trade at Queensland’s wholesale Central Market. Ed describes it as one of the most rewarding projects of his career.

“I spent hours writing rules, checking data, and fixing issues,” he said.

“Seeing it come to life and knowing it benefits our stakeholders – that’s incredibly satisfying.”

Reflecting on the transformation of the Markets over the years, Ed remembers when trainloads of produce would roll in and be unloaded by hand. Now, surrounded by sophisticated infrastructure and digital platforms, he’s proud of the progress he has helped build.

“I have witnessed so much change here – physically and technologically. It has been an honour to be part of that journey,” he said.

Still an active member of the Brismark team, Ed shows no signs of slowing down.
