Following the positions being taken by the State and Federal Governments in escalating their response to contain the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19), Brisbane Markets Limited (BML) has implemented the following changes:
- Public Entry on Thursdays and Fridays has been suspended until further notice.
- The operation of the Friday Night Market has been suspended, effectively immediately.
- The operation of the Sunday Discovery Market has been suspended, effectively immediately.
The Saturday Fresh Market provides consumers access to fresh food products and will continue to be held each Saturday, subject to ongoing review and any subsequent Government restrictions.
The core business operations undertaken at the Brisbane Markets site, being the warehousing, wholesale marketing and distribution of fresh produce, flowers and other products, is continuing and remains BML’s primary focus.
Shareholders should note that these decisions followed careful consideration by Management and the Board of the escalating risks associated with the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19).
BML will continue to be active in advising Tenants of the available information with regard to Coronavirus (Covid-19) and the actions recommended to contain its spread.
To date we are not aware of any reports of any Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases being linked to any Market business. Nonetheless, your Board considers it appropriate to be particularly cautious given the current circumstances.
Shareholders are advised that BML has disaster management plans in place and is finalising a review of its Business Continuity Plan with respect to this Infectious Disease. The Board has confidence in the plan and in its senior management team to ensure the continuous operation of the Markets. BML will continue to monitor the situation and will take all reasonable steps to respond to any further developments.
