The severe storm cell which hit Brisbane Markets on Friday, 15 December 2023 has been described as equivalent to a category three cyclone, with winds at Archerfield Aerodrome recorded at 169 km/h.

Widespread power outages were reported, along with water inundation to several buildings, with close to 30 mm of rain falling in under half an hour.
Brisbane Markets Limited (BML) crews and Service Providers worked over the weekend to remove debris strewn across the site and to make safe Tenancies and Common Areas.
Thanks go to BML’s Service Providers who responded quickly to assist with the damage: Eatons Services Group, SBP Australia, Agnola Plumbing, and Crisp Power and Control.

As this is only the start of the summer storm season, it is a timely reminder to all Tenants of the Brisbane Markets to ensure their storm preparations are up-to-date and that cold room Service Providers can be contacted in emergencies to ensure refrigeration equipment restarts following any potential power outage.
Tenants who would like to add staff members to BML’s emergency SMS group can do so by emailing their details to communications@brisbanemarkets.com.au.
