With a cult following willing to travel across South East Queensland for a taste of his perfect pastry parcels, Uncle Juan’s Bakehouse has been warmly welcomed back to the Saturday Fresh Market after a six-month hiatus.

The gastronomic genius behind Uncle Juan’s, Wayne Sewell, has a passion real-food solutions for his customers.

“I started Uncle Juan’s as a way to share my love of making good food from scratch using time proven old-fashioned pastry making and cooking practices,” Wayne said.

Uncle Juan’s selection of gourmet pies, sausage rolls and sweet treats are handmade using the highest quality Australian made or grown produce and ingredients.

“I handcraft all the puff and shortcrust pastry for my food using only butter as shortening, definitely no synthetic margarines or oils,” Wayne said.

“This gives my pies and sausage rolls that melt-in-the-mouth eating experience.”

Uncle Juan’s Bakehouse is a firm favourite with market-goers who find it difficult to leave the Saturday Fresh Market without one of his flaky morsels in hand.

“It’s such a vibrant market community and a truly fabulous location,” Wayne said. “I get on very well with people who are passionate about good authentic food, especially those to whom provenance is important. My customers there are just lovely and very appreciative of the trouble I go to in making my pastries.”
