Construction to replace the Curzon Street bridge is set to start next month, marking a further milestone in relation to Brisbane Market Limited’s (BML) strategic flood mitigation projects.
The Curzon Street bridge project scope of works include:
- replacement of the existing Curzon Street bridge and roadway, increasing the level of the bridge and Curzon Street entry by around 1.2 metres to approximately 7.0 m AHD (Australian Height Datum)
- raising and resurfacing adjoining asphalt roadways
- construction of a new entry awning
- new street lighting.
Upon completion, the new bridge and entry point will enable later exit from the Markets immediately prior to a flood event, and earlier access back into the Markets immediately after a flood event.
Curzon Street Entry closure from Monday, 9 March
From Monday, 9 March, the Curzon Street Entry will be closed for the duration of the works which are expected to take around five months. All access to the Brisbane Markets site will continue via Sherwood Road at the Main Entry and Western Entry, in accordance with existing access permissions and approved access times.
Traffic management measures, including signage to support safe vehicle movements as Markets users navigate alternate access routes, will also be in place for the duration of the works.
Further updates regarding access arrangements and operational expectations will be provided as the project progresses.
