Markets tour provides fresh perspective on industry

Deb Frecklington MP chats to Brismark Chair, Gary Lower, and BML Chair, Anthony Kelly.

Brisbane Markets Limited (BML) played host to a delegation of Queensland MPs and staff members for Queensland’s grower advocate body, Growcom, in two separate tours of the Brisbane Markets site on Friday, 25 November.

Deb Frecklington MP (Member for Nanango and Shadow Minister for Regional Development, Manufacturing, Water and Construction of Dams) was joined by Tony Perrett MP (Member for Gympie and Shadow Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry) and Jim McDonald MP (Member for Lockyer), in touring the Central Trading Area (CTA) and Brisbane Flower Market with BML’s Anthony Kelly (Chair), Peter Tighe (Deputy Chair), Noel Greenhalgh (Director) and Andrew Young (Managing Director and CEO).

The MPs took the opportunity to talk to Wholesalers and partake in the delicious summer fruits currently available.

Meanwhile, Growcom staff members were treated to a tour of the CTA and The Arch Martin Brisbane Markets History Room, where they learnt all about their roots in the Markets community from the days when they were known as the Committee of Direction for Fruit and Vegetable Marketing.

Both groups commented on the high-energy vibe of the Markets and the colourful produce on display.
